Landscaping 101

Did you know that careful, thought-out landscaping not only increases the beauty and value of your home, but also can lower costs associated with heating and cooling your home? For example, strategically placed trees and shrubs can shade your home in the summer and shield it from chilling winds in the winter.
Follow these other landscaping tips to improve the aesthetic beauty and value of your home:
  • Plan your landscaping according to how you want your grounds to look in 10 years. Long-range planning takes more time, but it pays off.
  • Landscaping doesn’t only include plants, trees and flowers. Landscaping around your home is an actual extension of your indoor living space and could include an area for an outdoor kitchen, patio, fireplace and more!
  • Be sure to seed and feed your lawn when all danger of frost has past.
  • Turn the water back on to your sprinkler system and test the system.
  • When landscaping always keep the proper grade of your lawn and garden in mind. Improper grading could cause too much water to run toward your home.
  • When adding mulch or bark to your landscape, be sure to remove the old bark first. Piling too much bark can hold excessive moisture next to your foundation.
